The Boabom Schools are happy to participate in the Tibetan Altruism Association’s new project:

A Library for LamSang Language School (Lhasa)

The goal of this project is to provide books for the LamSang Language School in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, in China. The LamSang Language School works with Tibetan children and teenagers with limited economic resources who wish to learn the English language, so that they can have the opportunity to gain better employment inside Tibet and China, including work as Tourist Guides around Tibet.
At this moment the school does not have a library at all, and it is very difficult for the school to provide material and books for the students to use.

What kind of books are needed:
In general, the school is in desperate need of English language books for beginner Students. For example:
1.-Grammar & Dictionaries: English grammar books for beginning students. Dictionaries for beginning students; English to English (The Oxford English Dictionary for Beginning Students is very good).
2.-Beginner Reading: Easy stories (stories in English with 700 to 2000 words). Simple books, like Chicken Soup for the Soul (a collection of short inspirational stories and motivational essays), as well as books classified as ‘High Interest Low Level.’
3.-General Knowledge: Books about general knowledge: basic science (not science text books), biographies, of famous people, etc.
4.- Advanced Classics: In the future, the idea will be to have a complete library, including classics. However, this is the least important category now, because the idea is to focus on books for beginning students of English.

Note: If you have any suggestions for additions to the list, please send a note!

How to help:
You can help by donating funds to the TAA so they can buy the books directly, by purchasing a book and mailing it directly to Lhasa, or by purchasing from the Tibetan Altruism wishlist on Amazon.

1. Direct monetary donations to the TAA:
via Direct Bank Transfer:
Name: Tu Deng (Thupten Norbu, Director TAA)
Bank account number-4563517900002386134
Bank name – BANK OF CHINA TIBET BRANCH
Bank Swift code number-BKCHCNBJ900Bank Address-No.28 LINKUO – WEST ROAD – LHASA

via Western Union:
Name: Tu Deng (Thupten)
ID card number-513332198312262816 LHASA – Tibet, China
(Thupten Norbu, director of TAA, will purchase the books form within China. This option is good because the books are shipped inside China)

2. Buy a book, or choose a book that you already have, and send it to this address:

Name: THUPTEN NORBU

Address: Bei Jiao Hua Yuan Xio QuD Qu / 2 Dong 3 Dan Yuan 401 Hao

City: Lhasa

County: Tibet (TAR)

Postcode: 850000

Country: CHINA

Phone: 15889088858

Note: It is not necessary to send many books: 1 or 2 at a time is ideal, as it is less expensive for you to ship and less complicated for the TAA to receive.

3. Amazon Account and Wish List:
The TAA also has an account with amazon.com, where there is a wish list with some recommendations of practical and useful books. All you need to do is select and buy a book; it will be automatically shipped directly to Lhasa.
How to do it:
1. Go to the Tibetan Altruism Association’s Amazon Wishlist
2. Pick a book from one the 4 lists that you will find (Grammar & Dictionaries, Beginner Reading, General Knowledge, Advanced Classics)
3. Put the book in your cart and purchase it.

What kind of books you should not send:
Please take care not to send any books about politics or religion. This is very important for the proper development of this project. If you have any doubt about whether or not a book is appropriate, please contact the TAA directly.

PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCEPT BOOK DONATIONS AT THE SCHOOL.

He barely made it to the peak, where he climbed a rock covered by a white mantle of snows. He looked at the great circular line of the horizon and saw only mountains and more mountains; the view was sharp and clear. He was amidst of the summits of the world, and that mountain which had been so hard to climb was only one among many others that, though distant, displayed even greater height.

The snow-covered summits seemed ageless. He looked towards the Valley, almost hidden between the mountains that surrounded him; the truth was that he really missed it, but he was also enjoying his time in the heights. He thought about how strange humans are, wanting everything and nothing, seeking recognition and anonymity, wanting to be alone so as to value company, craving disciplined wisdom in order to rest the mind in the placidity of free digression. He wondered if he was ready… if he was ready to leave the warm refuge of what is known, to plunge into the uncertainty of a journey to the unknown? Would he be ready to go, or better said, to return to the outside world?”
