A long time ago there was an old Boabom Guide named Tireless Expert. He had been born with a walking impediment, but despite this he was famous for his abilities in the defense Arts called Yaanbao-Boabom, which consisted of the mastery of elements of defense, especially the most precious of all, the Sword of Yaanbao.

One of his apprentices was something of a hypocrite, cunning too, and he had the habit of insinuating things instead of being direct. One day, he asked the old man with some irony in his voice, as if trying to test him:

“What is the difference between a swaggering lame old man and someone that can truly, really use the sword?”

Tireless Expert looked out to the horizon and answered, quietly:

“A swaggering man insinuates instead of asking, but he who knows the Sword of Yaanbao only draws it to use it, not to flaunt.” With this, he made a gesture as to grab his sword, which he carried across the braid with which he tied his tunic.

The hypocritical apprentice ran away, and was not seen again.

Sojamm students, friends and teachers of Boabom South and North!

Some days ago my student, our student, and member of the Boabom Council, Joselín Godoy, left his body to soar towards the great universal mystery.

I will miss him, and I am sure that everyone who knew him will remember him with great appreciation. Joselín did much for the Boabom Arts; he was a gentle and strong man, made in older days, so for him to be steadfast in bad times, supporting and giving strength to the cause, was something natural. He was a protector who remained strong when many doubted.

I will never forget him. No doubt, he was a sailor in a storm… nothing of good times for him. He fought and protected his Art and his School with courage, a courage that few others had.

As a Boabom-Guide many say that I may seem distracted or I have a bad memory… But do not believe it! It is not true, I remember everything : )

Joselín, for his spontaneous, protective way, I affectionately named Gonpo (mgom-po; guardian, spiritual protector in Tibetan). He was a good friend to many, a good father, and a tireless worker who, at a young age, destiny took far away from his family to travel the Seven Seas.

He was certainly a fearless man of adventure. A man faithful to his thoughts, even before doubtful friends; he kept his faithful and noble way, and this made them see it.

Joselín drove his taxi for many years, known to protect his passengers with great courage. Many bandits knew those fists–the Joselín style–quite well. He did not hesitate to use them. He had a rare natural agility, reflexes that were quick and confident. He told me of many adventures; of all the times that he used the Art of Boabom to defend the innocent, like a cartoon hero in real life. He dared to do what no one dared and he did not hesitate to “apply” his Boabom when it was necessary. Without a doubt he was respected in Valparaíso, old port of the southern seas, where crime sometimes passed the limit of what was bearable. He was a true urban hero, and as all urban heroes he died in silence, without scandal, a bother to no one…

In the Boabom Sur Schools he participated in many ways; he attended the first Mountain School 108, almost 20 years ago. He always defended his ideals; before the strong he was strong, before the weak he was humble.

Here are photographs of Joselín in school activities, meetings, working at Boabom projects, and finally participating in the first activity of Nendo-Dango (natural agriculture) in Chile. He left his seed. He was part of the history of Boabom.

Just after he departed from his body, I dedicated some words to Gonpo, meditating about death. Today I would like to share them with all our English speaking friends and students.

Joselín; student,
apprentice of the magical, guardian,
Gonpo, Boabom Warrior,
Pepeleen The Adventurer, Mariner of the Ocean-Life,
partner in the fight for impossible missions!

The stellar wind already rises for you,
take advantage, follow it;
its force flies in your favor!

Today I meditate for you and think:

Why does death cause so much grief?
It may be separation, if you not are there?
It may be for unfulfilled dreams, if you have not made the effort?
I may be sadness, if you have not cried enough?

Why does death cause so much grief…?
Maybe it is only a message of the passenger,
A reminder of the incomplete?
A warning of the inevitable?

I meditate and think;
Where are the promises?
Where are the illusions?
Where are the companions?!

But… what is death?
Another life that extends into what we ignore?
The final theory of wisdom, or a shrewd scoundrel?

What is death, what is death…?
I meditate for you and think:
Maybe death is only a lake that is going dry
and we are just reflections in its drift…?

It does not matter… death does not matter!
No doubt, we will write stories about you,
noble stories, about a Don Quixote with a taxi for his old horse,
about someone who dreamed our dream,
a man of quick fists,
a silent hero in a nostalgic port.

Those who stay, cry;
Those who leave, smile.”

Sojamm Joselín, Sojamm Gonpo!!!

Name: Yaanbao.
Pronunciation: ‘ya-an-bāo [ipa]
Meaning: Art of the Elements.
Origin: Yaanbao is a part of the physical teachings of the Mmulargan Boabom.

Description: Yaanbao is the study of inertia. Yaanbao is a branch of Boabom, an Art of exercise and defense that develops its movements through different elements (lag cha/ལག་ཆ།[tib]),which take shapes such as: medium, long and short staffs, swords, etc. Each element is studied in cycles, which allows the student to master them in order of complexity. Yaanbao also prepares the student with bare hands to face and balance her or his defense against another student using various elements.
Objectives: Yaanbao works in depth with the goals of Boabom (defense, strengthening, health and energy). It helps the student to perfect their movement, bringing strength and confidence to technique and gaining a new dexterity in the use of elements as a extension of the body.
Health: Yaanbao has shown itself to be an excellent system for balance recovery, to improve the body position and reflexes, and greatly helps the healing of hand and arm injuries (like tendinitis, fractures, etc.)
Requirement to learn: Health compatible with medium excercise. To have some experience in Boabom.
Implements: Toba (or medium stick, which is the first element that is taught).
Recommended Age: Can begin from 8 years of age.

Yaanbao fields: Cycles: 8 Cycles or Elements.

First Cycle: “The Art of the Toba” or medium staff.
Second Cycle: “The Art of the Tobae” or long staff.
Advanced Cycles: After the mastering of the two first cycles, the student may continue on to double short staffs and a further series of elements, until she or he arrives at the short and long swords.

Using the Toba:

Thangka: The Boston School of Boabom

This Thangka* is part of the collection donated to the Boabom Schools by Thupten Tulpa (from Lhasa, Tibet). Handmade and painted by Tibetan artists in Lhasa, the Thangka is made in the traditional Tibetan style, with pigments made of hand-pulverized minerals, mounted on natural silk with fine embroidery.

The work:

This drawing represents The Boston School of Boabom, named in Boabom as the School of the Power of Consciousness, represented by three guides seated around a flame, symbol of the harmony that must exist from the fire’s inception, that must continue to burn strong. In this, consciousness plays its role as a factor of will, stability, knowledge, and understanding of the facts that are necessary for the fulfillment of the teaching.

The School in Boston has a long history: It was the first school in the USA and it has served as a spark to begin other schools, sharing the flame of consciousness with new places and new students around the world.

The green hue depicts New England, with its beautiful, abundant forests.

As well, the city of Boston is known for its many internationally renowned universities, and is the major center of education in the USA.

At the base of the Thangka is written:
“dran shes kyi nus stobs – bho a bhoM sgyu rtsal. Literally: “The Power of Consciousness (to be aware)– School of Boabom Arts”
This Thangka currently hangs in the Boston School of Boabom, MA, USA.

More information:

*Thangka: A Thangka (pronunciation: tänkä) is a traditional Tibetan tapestry, embroidered and painted by hand, used in monasteries and in family altars. It is a mre than thousand year old tradition.

I was standing at the base position in the osseous field [*standup position technique] after SHOUTING SOJAMMMMMMMM (i love to shout it…hihihi), relaxed a bit and just before the OmHas [*high breathing technique] i was about to make, I Saw/Felt and Experienced the earth spinning/rotating vertically around me from the tip of my toe at the floor upward in front of me…all the floor and the room was rotating up around me like about 270 degrees i guess… It was fascinating, I’ve tried to stay as cool as I could not being surprised so much by it in order to avoid its disappearance if I let my mind take the control and interrupt it so it would “cut” new unpredictable experiences; So i was just standing there watching it and stood there staring and feeling this experience. I remember having a big smile on my face, lots of heat and energy moving inside and around me. it was so amazing to be in this space…

than after its rapid rotation my sight was fixed again back to the floor and wall in-front of me. all the floor and wall was vibrating and shifting up and down – it was like a wave of sound . slowly and gradually the movement reduce its shift and speed till all came back to normal and the vibration Stop. it last for some time , it doesn’t matter how long but i felt like about a moment in this experience.

it was so vivid and I felt just great energy inside me, everything was sharp and clear, and couldn’t take the smile and feeling for some time .
I’ve thanked the experience, continue my practice, OmHas and sat down for some meditate…”

Sojammmmm!!!

The Shadow

It was fall,
it was late.

The different tunes of
the colors made
the evening look dark.

Sweet smells
of plants on
the weat ground,
turning into soil.

Slow winds playing
among the trees,
touching the last
straw of grass,
the sleepy movements
of the lake.

The forest main road
was lightened by lamps
so that people could
walk in the dark.

But in this evening
she was alone.

Although she knew
the life of the forest,
she could not see
nor hear anything.

Only the feeling of the air.
The slow smell of the fall.
The softness of the darkness.
The stones under her feet.

The air was wet with
water drops,
still breathing the last rain.

And the sweat running
down her face
become a steam of
salt water.

Running down the hill
she suddenly stopped,

Standing in front of her,
on the side of the road,
was a tree.

Surrrounded by light,
from the lamp posts
behind.

Stripes through the light,
triangles and squares,
yellow and white,
dark blue and
green,
grey
and
black.

It was
the most
beautiful glory
she had ever seen.

After a while she
looked down on the ground.

There was the shadow of the tree.

She rested in the shadow.

Slowly breathing,

First then she saw her own,
as a black print
in the grey shadow of the tree.

She thought of running home,
but started to walk instead.
Suddenly wanting to
touch the tree.

As she lifted her hand,
she saw that it was not one tree.
It was three trees between her and the lamp.

They were all old, strong and
high
birch trees.
Standing beside each other.

Her hand felt the
wet moss
on the hard skin of
the trees.
She touched all three
of them,
one by one.

The breathing between them.

Thanking.
