Transit of Venus Time Lapse Video

Last night, cure some lucky people with clear skies, along with a number of excited astronomers, had the chance to watch venus pass in front of the sun for the last time in quite a while! Here in Boston we had cloudy skies at sunset, but thanks to space telescopes and the internet, we can get a better and more beautiful view than would have been possible without a cloud in the sky!

The transit of venus has a fascinating history in astronomy, and in the 1700s helped to calculate the size of the solar system.

Now data being collected from this transit of venus is being used, among other things, to understand planets outside of our own solar system, in a continuing search to learn more about the universe we inhabit, and thus ourselves–something any Boabom student can appreciate!
